Artist Bio
Born in Kingsville, Texas; mother a teacher, father a naval aviator. Started painting, drawing, and playing music in elementary school. First musical gig in the sixth grade. Attended University of Virginia. Worked as an engineer in the U.S. Merchant Marines, then employed as a draftsperson for a shipbuilding company (before CAD/CAM). Working musician in the Washington, DC area. Sold first painting in 1985. Moved to Nashville, TN and worked for 15 years as an entertainer, songwriter, and music publisher. During this period painted scores of impressionistic landscapes and started abstract style. Decided to go back to college. Attended Western Carolina University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree, both in chemistry. Worked full-time as a lecturer in chemistry at W.C.U. while developing abstract style. Retired from teaching in 2016. Now working as a painter and an entertainer in beautiful Bryson City, NC.
Other interests include stamp and coin collecting, ship model building, collecting (and reading) old history books, cosmology, and writing sonnets.
Artist Statement
It is my intent to impart a sense of motion to abstract subjects. Instead of a picture of a static scene that would look the same at a later time, I try to make an abstract painting represent a still frame from a movie film where the scene would be different seconds later.
