Artist Statement
“My intense passion and extreme love of life is the foundation of my creativity. Elation, contentment and ultimate satisfaction are the feelings I experience when reaching the completion of one of my pieces, thus granting me the drive and ambition to begin creating a new body of work. I like to define my artistic style as abstract in nature coupled with an expressionist quality.
My interpretation of a subject matter is
transformed into rich, vibrant bold colors
– timeless, awakening the soul, uplifting and radiant. My use of color evokes many moods; each piece I create is a moment in my life and therefore reflects that period of time – my art is the reflection of my eyes looking into my soul.”

Didier Audrat

Audrat is a sculptor and designer, urban furniture designer and interior designer. He was born in Toulon, France. He has developed his artist career in Guadeloupe. He has been living and working in the US for 5 years. The artist has two main inspirations: the different influences of the Native American and African culture, and his passion for contemporary materials. His zeal for space and object pushes his creations, from installing monumental works to creating objects.
Didier Audrat questions the public and urban space. It performs operations on the landscape, sometimes ephemeral and also devotes part of his work to the creation of original usual objects.
His in-situ interventions highlight, underline or criticize the place in question to invite us to see otherwise. His artistic approach is based on the idea of the "any world” or the idea that one can create anywhere and adapt its creation without getting lost and losing its identity. The idea of an universal creation.

Erté

Erté (French, 1892–1990) is a designer and sculptor born in St. Petersburg, Russia, on November 23, 1892. Erté is a pseudonym for Romain de Tirtoff, and is the French pronunciation of the artist’s initials, R.T. He came from a distinguished Russian family, and his father served as an admiral in the Russian fleet. The artist moved to Paris, France, in 1912, and changed his name from Romain to Erté to avoid embarrassing his family, who wished that he would follow in his father's footsteps.

Erté worked for fashion designer Paul Poiret (French, 1879–1944) from 1913 to 1914. In 1915, he landed a contract with Harper's Bazaar, illustrating and designing covers. Throughout his lifetime, the artist designed over 240 covers for that magazine. He was most famous for his fashion designs and was often called "The Father of Art Deco." He was also a costume and set designer, and some of the most notable silent films he worked on included Paris, Ben Hur, and Dance Madness. His most famous image is Symphony in Black, a serigraph of a woman wearing black holding a black dog. Other works include Lust and Pink Lady. During the 1940s and the 1950s, the artist fell into relative obscurity.

Then, in the 1960s, there was an increased interest in Erté’s work, and, in response, he created a series of sculptures and lithographs that revived the Art Deco movement. In 1970, the French government awarded him the title of Chevalier du Mérite, Artistique et Culturel. In 1976, he was awarded the title of Officer of Arts and Letters by the French government. In 1982, he received the Medaille de Vermeil de la Ville de Paris. His exhibitions include those held at the Knoedler Gallery in New York, NY, in 1920, the Galleria Milano in Milan, Italy, in 1965, and the Shiseido Gallery in Tokyo, Japan, in 1976. His work is included in the collections at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, England, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and Museum 1999 in Tokyo, Japan. Erté died on April 21, 1990, in Paris, France, at the age of 97.

Limited edition patina on bronze sculpture. Both Zeus and Hera are a rare exception featuring two figures. Not only does adding a second figure essentially provide two Erte sculptures in one, but it also creates new compositional opportunities and dramatically increases the overall size of the sculpture to an impressive 19 ½” x 18” x 6”.

Gladys Nieves

Born in New York, of Puerto Rican parents, Gladys Nieves always had an inclination for the plastic arts. That is why, despite having a master's degree in Psychology from the University of New York (NYU), she also studied at the Art Students League.

In that institution she studied drawing, painting, engraving and sculpture between the years of 1978 and 1986. In that same year (1986) she decided to go to Italy to continue studies in sculpture, where she developed skills in marble carving. The work she produced was exhibited in 1987 in a series of exhibitions titled Chiostro di Santa Agostina, in Pietrasanta; and Omaggio All'Italia, in Marignana, Camaiore.

In 1990 she returned to New York and set up her workshop, producing enough material to exhibit. This is how she presents his Tridimentional Duality exhibition at Hostos Community College. Next year the Art Museum of Ponce presents a selection of hes works, year that marks her transfer to the island and the establishment of a Stone Sculpture Workshop at the Fine Arts Center of the Municipality of Guayama. She has also worked on several commissioned works such as the Bust of Antonio Paoli Marcano in the Ramón Baldoriot National Pantheon and of Castro in Ponce, by the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture (1992); and a monument for the Guamani School in Guayama (1997), sponsored by that same institution.

Her motto is always "Only respecting the dignity of the materials used is that I can give life to my Art" Su lema de siempre es "Solamente respetando la dignidad de los materiales utilizados es que yo puedo darle vida a mi Arte"
